A Message From the Heart
From the very beginning, La Cueva De La Llorona was created as more than a restaurant. It was imagined as a place of gathering — a space inspired by story, art, culture, and the simple joy of being around the table with friends.
Over the past year, many of you have joined us for authentic Mexican food, shared celebrations, quiet conversations, and memorable evenings. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us and made this space feel alive.
Why we are no longer offering food
In recent months, we have faced a succession of essential building repairs, all arriving at a particularly vulnerable time of year for hospitality. While we made every possible effort to continue operating our kitchen, the scale and timing of these ongoing works have now made it impossible for us to continue food service in a way that aligns with the quality, care, and heart that defined our offering.
Because of this, we have made the considered decision to close our kitchen and move forward as a drinks-led venue. This is not a temporary pause — it is a clear and intentional step as we reimagine what this space can become.
We are still here
It’s important for us to say clearly: we are not closing.

- a warm, welcoming atmosphere rooted in culture and connection
At its heart, the story of La Llorona was never only about food. It was about togetherness — laughter, conversation, shared moments, and the feeling of belonging. That spirit remains.
Reimagining the space
These changes have given us the opportunity to look forward with clarity and intention. In the coming days, we’ll be reimagining the space entirely — still expressive, still art-filled, still cultural — but shaped into something new and exciting that feels right for this next chapter.

Supporting local hospitality
January is an incredibly challenging month for independent hospitality. Small acts of support — a coffee, a glass of wine, an evening drink — genuinely make a difference. If you value local, independent spaces in Carlisle, your presence matters more than you might realise.
We are proud to have contributed something different to the city, and we are deeply moved by the regulars, friends, and supporters who continue to stand with us.
Gift vouchers
All gift vouchers purchased in recent months remain valid and can be used for drinks at La Cueva De La Llorona or at our sister venue, Crown Lane Cellar.
Both locations are happy to accept vouchers for drinks purchases.
